Plot: Sarah Jane thought that she had quite enough troubles already, what with the bright purple man-eating aliens living in the Thames. Then the Doctor turned up with a new face, an inexplicably northern accent and a sex crazed American in tow.
Review: I love Jack in this being Jack and flirting with everything in sight, most particularly Sarah. K-9's great in this too, stunning people and wanting to be walked. The Doctor is definitely recognisably the Ninth Doctor in this. The purple aliens are a really cool idea too.

Plot: Jackie and Mickey save the day by bickering, drinking lots of tea and spending a lot of time in the pub in the middle of the day.
Review: This is another novel from the Big Bang challenge and it is just excellent. I was laughing out loud at sections and simply couldn't put it down. Mickey and Jackie are just so *them* and that's where the humour comes from. Their interaction with other characters from the series (and from the Sarah Jane series) was wonderful because so much of the humour in this fic is about people and their reactions to the weirdness around them.
The clever thing is how well it all fits into the established canon while bringing in characters that hadn't been introduced in the Doctor Who canon at the time this fic is set. As well having a good eye for characterisation, humour and dialogue, Netgirl writes a good plot that makes complete sense for our heroes and wouldn't be completely out of place in Doctor Who canon. It's long, it's plotty and it's just pure fun.

Plot: The annoying thing about Nyssa, the really annoying thing, was that it was impossible to stay angry at her for any length of time.
Review: This fic surprised me by making the pairing believable. Netgirl gets under the skin of Tegan and presents a Nyssa that's a little easier to like than the one we often see. It's a short piece, but it packs a lot into a few words.

Plot: 'So in 1982, the Doctor becomes, for a week, a chemistry teacher.'
Review: This is an excellent combination of young Ace and the Tenth Doctor, where he proves to be an interesting chemistry teacher and she is certainly an interesting student. The great thing about this is it makes perfect sense given what we know about the two of them. In amongst the slightly humourous aspects, there's a nice contrast of the Doctor spending time with a friend he hasn't seen for a while.

Plot: And then there's the body. The body and the fact that when he flirts with people, he's suddenly a lot more open to delivering on the promise.
Review: It's hard to categorise this fic. It's an internal monologue, but not really, and it's thinking about things that I hadn't really thought would work, but that make sense in the way they're written. Part of the beauty of this fic is the way it's written. nostalgia_lj has got under the skin of a Doctor that we don't see on the screen, but you can see how she's found him in those unsaid moments and through reading between the lines and the tone of the fic just works for it.

Plot: The Doctor pouted. Draco wasn't impressed.
Review: It's so funny. It's written in the style of a children's book (complete with pictures) and tells the story of Draco's travels with the Doctor. Except Draco's not your ordinary companion and it's interesting to see his reactions to everything and what the Doctor tries to impress him. My favourite bits are the asides that explain the Doctor's pout more thoroughly and more amusingly.
