Plot: A Smorg story: a moose, moderately pervy bootlaces, Jaffa poetry, implied Swedish, spray cheese and gratuitous tok'ra.
Review: There is a sad lack of good humour in Stargate fanfic, so it's quite a treat to find a humour fic that is actually funny. This has got an eye for the ridiculous, a lovely tongue-in-cheek voice and some classic lines. The slash is more implied than on-screen - this fic is more about some slightly deranged situations, mental images and a moose called Elvis.

Plot: In honour of International Women's Day, a Sam femslash fic.
Review: It says 'OFC' in the pairing, but this is by no means a Mary Sue fic. It says PWP, but it's not thoughtless sex. It's angsty, painful and very hot sex with a surprising insight into Sam. It's also quite short so I'll just direct readers to it.

Plot: Carter and O'Neill live with the consequences of doing the right thing.
Review: This fic should be really cliched - it starts four years into the future with Sam married and Jack with someone else, they've not seen each other for that long, they're still in love, yadda, yadda. Except, somehow, it's not.
Perhaps it's because the characterisation's great: you can almost feel the tension between Sam and Jack. The original characters are well fleshed out.
Perhaps it's the plot: it twists this back and forth so you just can't tell who is going to end up with who.
The one bad thing in this is an OC at the end who seemed so cliched he overrode the rest of the story at that point. But it's only a small niggle in a long story.

Plot: Imagined missing scene for 'Fallen' (season 7). What does a colonel do with an amnesiac archaeologist?
Review: We're all busily trying to write predictions for the upcoming episode 'Fallen', and this is one of my favourites of the ones I've seen. The humour and the warmth between the characters shine through. There's some wonderful dialogue that had me giggling and the characterisation was spot-on. In other words, I can't find anything wrong with it and many, many reasons to heartily recommend that you run over and read this. Beautiful.

Review: Wherever your mind is going on seeing the pairings list, stop. This could be a silly, fluffy smut piece. Or a PWP. Or whatever else your mind conjures up from the pairings. But it's not - it's a beautiful exploration of who SG-1 are and their bond together. It's a Sam POV piece and shallot really gets under Sam's skin, painting a vivid picture of Sam's confusion and uncertainty without loosing sight of who Sam is. shallot has a wonderful writing 'voice' that works perfectly for this fic. She doesn't forget the rest of SG-1, but this is really Sam's fic and it's lovely. Just go and read it.

Plot: Jack and Daniel wake up in bed together. (Yes, I'm just working through the cliches here.)
Review: I really should have reviewed this one years ago because I love it. But I'm still working through a back-catalogue of great fic as well as rec'ing new stuff, so I didn't. However, there was a discussion on-list about particular kinds of stories that push our buttons and this is one of the ones I love. I may have mentioned my love of telepathy stories - this combines telepathy (woo-hoo!) with the well-used 'hungover morning after' cliché to produce a fic that's a little different and that I adore. There is angst. There's telepathy used as a new and fascinating plot device. There's odds and ends of archaeology and Smart!Jack makes a welcome appearance. It's bittersweet in parts, but you'll still read the last lines smiling. It's beautiful.

Plot: Jack and Daniel's friendship evolves
Review: I loved this series because the emotions in it were so real, and sometimes raw. The portrayal of all the team, but particularly J and D, were great but what really caught me was that the relationship was not easy and not perfect. Sharilyn managed to convey that beautifully so that I was sometimes smiling and sniffling at the same time. It's a great series and I seriously hope she keeps adding to it.

Review: This is a Christmas fic, so this should tell you how far behind I am in my reading. But it's beautiful, brought a tear to my eye and I just couldn't resist reccing it because Christmas is too damn far away to wait.
The tone in this is both sad and hopeful at the same time. It's a Meridian-fix story, in a sense, and written in third person from Jack's POV. Sideburns manages to tell a touching, moving story that skates around the edge of sap without ever dipping a toe in. Read it now or come back to it at Christmas - it's beautiful.

Review: Combining a well-known bard and Stargate into one fic shouldn't be possible, but sideburns manages anyway. This fic is by turns funny, insightful and sweet, with some fascinating aliens and ideas. I'm trying to find other reasons for loving this, but I think most of it comes from the way sideburns writes. I'm always completely absorbed by anything she writes and this is no exception. It's post-Fallen, so we have a post-ascension Daniel, and sideburns' talent for creating interesting secondary characters is utilised well. I think the only thing I can add is to go and read it because there is no way to summarize the plot without giving away far too many details.

Plot: An alternate Jack comes looking for help from our SG-1, Daniel is faced with learning about an alternate version of himself, and Sam finds herself with several heartbreaking decisions to make.
Review: I am a sucker for quantum mirror stories. I always find it fascinating to see what each author can come up with in their universe and how they interpret the characters in their alternative universe. Whenever I see something come through from Sideburns I know that it will be a treat and this one is. This is a slash story but Sam's B-plot is just as interesting and moving as Daniel's arc. Sit back with a cup of coffee (or herbal tea *sigh*) and some cookies and enjoy this fantastic story.

Review: This is a response to the queue fic challenge on the AlphaGate list. Having been there at the inception of the challenge (boy, was that ever a good con) I've been reading all the responses with great interest. This is one of my favourites, and surprise, surprise, it's by sideburns. The characterisations are just great, the challenge has been executed without any awkwardness and great use was made of the closet :-) This is guaranteed to leave a smile on your face.

Plot: Life is all about the company you keep.
Review: The major reason to read this fic is that it packs an emotional punch with a few words. The writing doesn't waste words, but it's completely absorbing. Sori has her Jack and Daniel voices there on the page - I heard them in my head as I was reading.
The fic makes references to events during the past eight seasons, so you need to keep track of where she is in each scene, but that adds to the depth of the fic. It also has a great central idea tying the fic together, which I won't describe because you need to read it to find out.

Plot: Jack and Daniel step into another reality and learn some interesting things about themselves and the people around them...
Review: This story left me with a huge grin, which is reason enough for me to recommend it :)
The characterisation was great and the alternate universe characters were still completely recognisable (not an easy trick). One of the things that struck me was the way that the author managed to include differences in secondary and original characters that enhanced the story instead of distracting from it. I could hear the dialogue as it was spoken.
This is a story that I couldn't put down, even though my back was cramping because I'd forgotten an extra pillow, which I think says everything that needs saying.
