Plot: Going out of town to hunt for an amulet, Buffy and Giles get stuck in some snow. But help is at hand in the form of a mysterious farmhouse and our daring duo have to spend Christmas together...
Review: Not only is this fic fun, it's also sweet, loving and has a little bit of a mystery in it. Gail has a lot of fun with the characters, which comes through in her writing, and I can guarantee there are several scenes that will have you in stitches. At the same time, there are some heartbreakingly beautiful scenes and the twist will probably leave you gaping, it's so unexpected. Don't miss this one if you're able to read it.

Plot: In a new twist on 'A Christmas Carol', Ripper is visited by some ghosts while in the present Buffy begins a research project to find out about her Watcher...
Review: Over the years, there have been a lot of stories written to fill out Giles' past and this is one of my favourites. It flashes between Ripper and Buffy and for the first time we get a good reason for Giles returning to the fold. The story is well written, atmospheric and you can almost see the places Karen is describing. At the same time it's great fun for anyone who's read 'A Christmas Carol' as well as for those who haven't. If you're a Ripper fan, or a Giles fan, or a Buffy fan, then this is a story you'll love. Of course, if you can't stand any of those characters you'll probably hate it, but it gives some rare insights into all of them and is definitely a good one to read.

Plot: Vimes' Hogswatch.
Review: This has Vimes in three different situations, his reactions in all of them are just what you can see him doing. Sybil's reaction to him trying to get through a soiree are funny, as is the description of the event. Young Sam is very sweet, as his Vimes's reaction to him. Basically, it's just a feel good, funny, Christmas (well, Hogswatch) story.

To Be With My Love on Christmas Day

Themes: Drama, romance, seasonal

Length: 10-40KB
Plot: Still...there was something to be said about the familiarity of a place at the holidays. And so it was that the Doctor found himself materializing in that old familiar alley at the Powell Estates, on the evening of Christmas Day, very nearly two years after he lost Rose Tyler into a parallel universe.
Review: This is a beautiful, slightly wistful 'what if' fic. Written before Voyage of the Damned aired but set afterwards, it's a Christmas fic about hope for tomorrow. I loved the Doctor in this one, less manic than normal but fitting for the type of fic, and the attention to the details of the Who-verse. It's one of those fics that leaves you with a warm, happy, fuzzy feeling so it's perfect for the season but at the same time it leaves you wondering what happened next. Curl up with some chocolate and enjoy this one.

Plot: Tegan has her own perspective on the Sycorax invasion.
Review: There isn't much Tegan fic out there so it's always a treat to find some. This Tegan has grown older and matured, but she hasn't completely put away her time with the Doctor. It's a fascinating insight into the mind of a former companion and the details of Christmas in Australia give the fic that a depth that makes it live.

Plot: Watch Remus, Peter said, look for evidence; but what Sirius found was something different. Christmas 1979. (12,000 words or so)
Review: It's always interesting to see what different authors thought was happening during the first war with Voldemort and this fic fits perfectly. It's easy to see how this Remus and Sirius become the men we see in the books and busaikko doesn't pull any punches with her details of life during the time. Despite that, there is a sweet romance in there. The writer doesn't give us a simple romance or an easy ending for them, but it's a satisfying fic nonetheless.

Plot: Somewhere in the wilds of Eriador a company of Rangers will not be home for Yule.
Review: This is a beautifully sweet Yule Rangers story. I can't say much about it without giving away the plot, but it's a nice look into the way the Rangers had to live, especially in the years closer to the events of The Lord of the Rings. It's sad when you see how they live and how many of them die. Yet there is hope there, when they celebrate Yule in their own way.

Plot: It's Halloween and the SGC appears to be haunted...
Review: Sometimes Anais' characterisation doesn't match up with what I see on-screen but I'm laughing so hard I don't care. This one is different - the characerisation is great and the story is a haunting, memorable one. She gives 'screen' time to Sam (unusual in J/D slash) and has a fascinating central plot. Jack and Daniel's relationship is also fascinating and I loved Jack's gradual examination of his feelings. This is quite different from much of Anais' work, closer to 'Kawoosh' in tone, and I couldn't put it down even though I was reading it at a ridiculously late hour. I'm glad that someone reccomended this one to me on-list because I might have missed a wonderful fic.

Plot: A challenge answer. Roses are blue, violets are red... Blame Joy. I do.
Review: You'll need to read the fic to understand the title :-)
This is the other fic to come out of Joy and DM's private Valentine challenge. It's a completely different tone from Joy's, as befits an established relationship fic instead of a first time, and just as good. Daniel's motivations are completely in character and DM, as usual, has both his and Jack's voices just right. More importantly there is a humorous tone to this fic that never gets out of hand and left me grinning at the end and it's a great antidote to all the diabetic-coma-inducing sappiness around me.

Plot: A date and anxiety.
Review: This is one part of a private challenge between DM and Joy - as you can tell, they weren't the only ones to enjoy these. It's impossible to read this one without grinning, even though it isn't laugh-out-loud funny. It's sweet without being sappy. Hot in parts and calm, gentle in others. There's some lovely Sam friendship moments as well as Jack/Daniel relationship moments. The dialogue is spot-on for all the characters and the entire thing feels 'real'.
At the end is a tiny poem that finished off and fleshed out this fic perfectly.

Plot: Jack and Daniel get a very special Christmas gift.
Review: As you can see, I'm very behind in my reading because this is a Christmas story that I'm recommending in February. But it's worth reading. It's post-Homecoming and I loved the fact that the guys are so obviously glad to have Daniel back. PhoenixE captures Jack's voice beautifully and manages to write a sweet story without ending up in diabetic-coma territory. There's a lovely glow to this story that just comes off the page. It is a Christmas story but doesn't have to be read at Christmas only - if anything, it's great for cheering up a miserable February day.

Plot: A very special gift from a very special person.
Review: This is a Christmas fic, so this should tell you how far behind I am in my reading. But it's beautiful, brought a tear to my eye and I just couldn't resist reccing it because Christmas is too damn far away to wait.
The tone in this is both sad and hopeful at the same time. It's a Meridian-fix story, in a sense, and written in third person from Jack's POV. Sideburns manages to tell a touching, moving story that skates around the edge of sap without ever dipping a toe in. Read it now or come back to it at Christmas - it's beautiful.

Use the last two lines or not. A short to medium fic on the subject of Valentine's Day or with valentine in the heading. Teand's answer.
Review: This is Teand's answer to the private Valentine challenge for some of the FDAS writers and it's also a complete hoot. I couldn't help grinning and giggling :-)
There's not too much that I can say about the plot because it's so short, but I can say that it's got sufficient snark, wit and fun mental images to keep you entertained and I knew that I'd be reccing it the moment I began reading it.

Plot: The SGC and a wayward Goa'uld cross paths on Christmas Eve...
Review: This story is quite silly. SG1 are determined to make sure Jack O'Neill has a good Christmas whether he wants to or not. They're not helped by a surprise inspection of the SGC on Christmas Eve by Senator Kinsey, or the arrival of a Goa'uld on Earth. Basically it's a satirical look at Christmas, which makes it really funny.

Plot: Ronon + mistletoe = silliness and kisses
Review: Written as part of the SGA Secret Santa, this is a fluffy, fun fic that takes advantage of the mistletoe cliche and enjoys every second of it. Rodney and John are present and correct, but it's Ronon who steals the fic as an unlikely Cupid. The author details on this review will be updated after the reveal.
